FAQs

Does private health insurance cover osteopathy?

Yes, many private health insurance plans cover osteopathy. It is important to check with your individual insurance plan, to see what extra and exact services are covered. Private health rebate is available for both in-clinic and home visit appointments.

What can I expect during an osteopathy consultation?

To know how to best help you and address your concerns, I will take an in-depth medical history and learn to understand more about your current presenting issue. I will then conduct a thorough physical assessment and examination to identify areas which may be contributing to your pain or presenting issues. Using a range of manual techniques, I aim to alleviate pain and improve your mobility. You can expect a diagnosis and individualised management plan that will leave you feeling empowered for your next steps. My goal for you is that you leave your appointment clearly understanding what's going on in your body and how I can help support you.

What is clinical pilates?

Clinical pilates is a form of exercise designed to improve core stability, posture, balance, mobility, strength and endurance - tailored to your individual needs. The exercises I prescribe as usually low impact and may require some equipment e.g. bands and weights, however they are completely modifiable. So don’t worry, you don’t need a reformer to do clinical pilates! I am passionate about clinical pilates during pregnancy and the postpartum period, in particular rehabilitation for conditions such as; abdominal separation, pelvic floor weakness or overactivity, caesarean rehabilitation and return to exercise postpartum.

Is osteopathy safe during pregnancy?

Yes, Osteopathy is a safe and effective form of treatment during pregnancy. As a women’s health osteopath I commonly treat and manage a range of pregnancy related pain and conditions such as pelvic girdle and lower back pain, neck pain and headaches as well as upper back and rib pain. I enjoy collaborating with other healthcare professionals such as pelvic floor physiotherapists, pelvic health osteopaths, GPs, obstetricians, midwives and doulas to ensure you are feeling informed and supported during your pregnancy.

When should I book my postpartum osteopathy appointment?

You can see your osteopath as soon as you are able after you have had your baby. I recommend my clients to book within the first 3 weeks postpartum for an assessment of how your body has adjusted to labour and birth. Within this consultation, you can expect a detailed postpartum assessment, treatment as well as advice on (breast)feeding postures, pelvic floor and abdominal exercises as well as specific advice regarding your unique labour, birth and postpartum experience. I enjoy collaborating with other healthcare professionals such as pelvic floor physiotherapists, pelvic health osteopaths, GPs, lactation consultants and postpartum doulas to ensure you are feeling informed and supported on your postpartum journey.
